Ice conditions are REALLY spotty... I have seen 4" to 5" of clear black ice in some spots, however only 2" on ice in other spots...The typical spots to stay away from are the heavy current areas, especially around the Deseronto area and Long Reach. The possibility of Rain and the high of 4C is reason to be cautious alone. However, the low overnight temps is still enough to continue to make ice.

The good news is, it will all be safe and frozen in no time, so let's be careful.

If everything holds good, we plan to be in full swing starting New Years weekend.

Cheers, Hodgey...

I fished straight across from the Sherman's point boat launch on the 23rd. There was 6 inches of black ice all the way across to the other shore. Only caught perch though. Saw some people fishing at Huffs as well. Good luck and be safe.

Good to see that much ice already. I'm not too familiar with the specific areas and name but I believe Sherman's point is at the end of Hay Bay. That being said, does anybody know what the ice conditions are like by the old church up that way. That is the only place I have ice fished on quinte. Usually go for perch with the chance of walleye.

Thanks for any info.

JFish.

A week ago the Old Church had only 1" of ice when I checked it. I don't have an up to date report for you though.

There are a couple permanent shacks out at the church and have seen a few guys walking out there, HOWEVER, I haven't personally checked it so I can't tell you how thick the ice is.
It should be ok to walk out but use your own judgement and check it as you go. No need to take chances.
I'll be out tomorrow for a bit of skating with tthe kids and then fishing on sunday so I'll report back with thicknesses and if anything is being caught.
Merry Christmas to all and stay safe,

FISH HUNTER
