hey guys I was just wondering how the fishing is doing around the picton and hay bay area's im heading up tomorrow (thursday) gunna try our luck any info would be helpful thanks

Haven't heard much about the Picton area since the opening weekend, there has been some fish at Hay Bay up towards Pickeral Park.

Kinda far between the two.

I'll too will be travelling up to the Picton area for some fishing this weekend and staying at Merland Park. We're fishing for Walleye but if that doesn't pan out Pike or Bass will do fine. Now I know no one wants to give up there secret fishing holes but any info or a general area would greatly be appreciated.

Small..I mean big reminder bass is CLOSED on the bass of qunite this time of year....Try trolling infront of the cement plant for some suspended eyes in 35-40 feet of water...If that doesn't pan out try near the island by the ferry (Thompson point side of the ferry).

Please be aware that it is illegal to fish for bass during closed season even if you plan to release. I'm not sure when they spawn, but if you catch a bass and remove it from it's guard of the "nest" it may not return. Anglers must read and understand the regulations.

PLEASE DO NOT FISH FOR BASS TILL THE SEASON OPENS.

There is a reason why there is a bass season and it is to protect the bass during the spawn. The bass will now be building their nest and then be spawning very shortly (especially if this heat wave keeps up). The most dangerous time for bass during the spawning period is of course when the males are protecting the nest from those crappie/blue gill/etc. Even by catching a bass and returning to the water ASAP, this gives these fish enough time to clean the nest of all those bass fry.

So again, please respect the rules and do not fish for bass till the end of June.

I fished the open water in the cement plant and ferry area on Friday night and Saturday and Saturday evening. The fishing was slow, we only caught 5 walleye most after dark. I was marking some big schools of fish but the North East wind seemed to have them turned off (thats my excuse anyway)! Good luck on the weekend and if you can't find the walleye bight go for the pike. Mike is correct about the bass protecting the fry and even if you pull the fish out of the water for a minute or two the damage can be done!

mmmmm how can you fish for bass ........ if bass are present does that mean you cant fish the lake during walleye season. this is called an incidental catch release is fine.

There is a difference between an incidental catch and going to where you know the bass spawn and targetting them!
