We had another good day at Mexico. Beautiful day to be on the water and we picked up a bonus Atlantic to go with the browns. Obviously the third fisherman took the photo.

the fish to the left is an atlantic salmon also referred to as a landlocked, yes we are able to keep up to 3 a day over 15 inches i believe. Also, here is a link to our hatcheries. Yes we do stock atlantics and that is why they are making a comeback. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7742.html

We have landlocked salmon aka Ouaniche sp? near North Bay, Ontario in Trout Lake as I recall. There is no season for them, and I believe there are also populations in Quebec and the Maritimes.

Historically it is my understanding that we had them run up the Salmon River as far as Forest Mills in the Bay of Quinte, with logging, mills largely believed to be part of the reasons for their demise. I have not read anything about the Moira or Napanee, or the Trent, but suspect that this is trackable in information.

The program near Markham is run in the Ringwood hatchery as I recall, with partners with an the Metro East Steelheaders, Australion winery, OFAH, and MNR on board. Given its historical significance, I am hopeful this will bear fruit, given their ability for multiple spawning runs and pound for pound a superior experience as I understand it.

Just a few notes. With the temperatures I am hearing about this weekend, I am thinking this will rapidly press a fast spawn.

Landshark,
I talked to Pete and we are tentative planning on heading down Wed. or Thursday. Hopefully we can get together. Also Atlantics need to be 25" which the one in the photo was but just barely. It was delicious!
