Last year was my first year on quinte, I went out with G2 a few times and a few other guides as well, I have bought all the gear this year and am ready to go on my own

Problem is its spring time and I hear people use different techniques for catching walleye, in the fall was pretty standard, most guys I went out with were using the same methods, plannars with reef runners, tail dancers, etc, so I'm wondering is this still viable in the spring or should I be running spinners with live bait? Smaller cranks? Some tips would be greatly appreciated

Jay

Speed is a huge factor in early season walleye. fall time you might be running 1.8 even up to 2.0 spring time that just dont get it trolling under 1.0 with a worm rig . or just drif jigging seems to be the most productive until early summer and warmer water tempatures

Grizzly is right, speed is crucial during any season, but colour and size is just as important.... try to match the forage thats around. I run planers all season long, when you see the hooks you can tell something is spooking them away from the boat. I recommend trying smaller perch baits, during spring and instead of a td-11 downsize to a td-9! I find fish hugging bottom, suspended.... there all over the place just finding the hungry ones is key! GL on the opener, dont be afraid to experiment!

Sleep all day, fish all night. Pull fish sticks and don't be afraid to use the big ones, swap them out often checking for weeds. Don't go in a straight line, the fish will be suspended and run from the boat at night.

The big girls will be half way to Ithaca, NY by May this year, so my best advise is forget about em and go get some perch.
