QUINTE FISHING SERIES
2010 EDITION - Volume 1
Another Season is Here!!
I’m sure that all anglers have been watching their calendars for the May 30th weekend for some time now and we wish everyone participating the best of luck both as the tournament season unfolds. Once again we will be running three one day events and two, two day tournaments leading up to the Quinte Classic in September. Again this year, anglers will have to qualify for the Classic and this will lead to some exciting times over the course of the season. As in 2009, anglers/teams are encouraged to fish all five (5) tournaments but must fish three (3) events prior to the Quinte Classic to qualify. The top fifty (50) teams/individuals, including ties, with the lowest aggregate points totals in at least three (3) or from their best three (3) tournaments will qualify for the Quinte Classic. As in the past, there will be an entry fee for the Classic ($250.00) but this event will again have a 100% payback plus top up money. By now, anglers will already know that entry fees have increased in 2010. Fees have not been raised for a number of years and with the costs of everything going up, the executive felt that we could not continue at the rates used in the past. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and look forward to another great year!
Once again our wonderful and supportive sponsors have come through again in 2010. With the economy in some trouble over the past two years, we thank them for their continued support again this year, which allows us to continue to bring this growing Series to our anglers. Wanting to do more, two of our long time sponsors have decided to bring additional prizes to the Series in 2010! Canadian Tire Belleville, D.E. McCullough owner, has offered to take over the “Big Fish” Award and has offered a great prize to our “Big Fish” winners. As well as the “pool money”, the winning team at each tournament with the largest fish each day or days (if a two day event), will receive two (2) - $75.00 Canadian Tire Gift Cards (Belleville Store). What a nice bonus to the winners!!
A brand new sponsor has also stepped up to the table this year with an additional prize geared to the “Big Fish” of each tournament. Nick Zhang, general manager of SIMAXROD (Hongkee Ltd.), met with our executive last month and has agreed to supply the Series with quality rods as prizes. So at each event this season, two SIMAXRODS will be given to the second largest fish caught at each event! Nick wanted to reward the anglers who come oh so close to that “Big Fish” prize at each event and we thought it was a good ideal
If you’ve looked through the brochure/entry form, you should have seen our other new prize for 2010. Bay Marine, after their tragic fire last year, wanted to step up and support the Series with something we’re calling, “Back At Ya At Bay!” This will be a free draw to all teams with the winners at each event getting their entry fee back - $175.00 or $250.00!! I’m sure like me, you’re glad to see some new construction and buildings going up at Bay Marine and I encourage anglers to drop by and see their new facility and their new line of Ranger bass boats!
We have also heard from Bruce Lloyd at LINE X Kingston and he wanted to add something new for the 2010 season too. Thanks to Bruce, we will be offering a free draw on a spray-on truck bed liner! This draw will be open to all anglers who will qualified to fish the 2010 QUINTE CLASSIC and will be drawn at that time.
Again in 2010, STRATOS boats will be offering their “Double Your Winnings” program. Any team winning a Quinte Fishing Series tournament running a Stratos boat, model year 2008-2011 ,will double their first place money - up to $10,000.00! Last year saw one of our teams win this prize and doubled their winnings of $4,500.00!! So as you can see guys, and gals, fish hard this season as there is a number of great prizes and money up for grabs in 2010! As in the past, the prizes for the year will also be back for 2010; the “Angler/Team of the Year” prize of a 15 Polarkraft boat, Mercury 15 H.P. motor and Northtrail trailer, Runner-Up prize of “Free Entries” for 2011, and the top team in the 115 H.P. and Under Division will again receive “free entries” for 2011 plus $500.0 in cash!!
On May 8”, the second annual Blair Smith Memorial “Fishing with Kids” event took place in Trenton. Although the weather didn’t cooperate, the event went ahead and over the course of the morning, we have a total of 75 kids show up for a fun time. Each child, ages 5 to 13, was given a bag of goodies and T-shirt when they arrived and then were treated to a free barbeque around the noon hour. We also had draws on eight packages which included rod, reel, tackle box and tackle/lures and these lucky kids went home with some additional fishing gear! My thanks to the Smith family, Quinte Fishing Series executive and volunteers from the Series and the local BassMasters Club. In spite of the weather, the kids and us had a great time.
As this first event is a walleye tournament, please go over the rules and regulations for the event and make sure you’re up to speed on things. As a reminder, teams are allowed to weigh in two (2) fish over 63cm. and two (2) fish under 63 cm., but over l4 Teams can weigh in combinations of the two sizes but no more than two walleye over the 63cm. length. Also, any fish that is short of the minimum size will not be weighed in and one pound shall be deducted from the balance of the team’s weight.
Once again the Series executive have had a busy winter planning this season and we look forward to another great year. I on your behalf, want to thank them for their time and efforts and we hope you have a great year and good fishing! In fishing, Pete 613-967-1024
