Quinte Fishing

Just got back from a three day trip to Quinte. Fishing was the best we've had since '96. I had Terry, his wife and their 3 kids along. Terry got 27 walleye, I got 15, Jeff (he's 5) got 3 plus a couple big sheephead. Eric (3 years) got a couple nice sheephead too. Most of the walleye were 12" - 17", the biggest was 21". I got the big one on a blue/silver thunderstic. All but 1 of the rest came on worm harnesses, with chart being the best colour. We also must have caught 300+ perch and used up at least 15 doz. worms. All of our fish were caught along the North shore, 11' - 17' deep, between the mouth of the Napanee River and the big bridge at Telegraph narrows. Speed was 1.3 -1.8mph.

Of the 45 walleye we caught, we kept only 6, all around 15".

There must have been one heck of a spawn a couple years back to account for all these fish. They say that's how the great fishing at Quinte got it's start back in '78 & '79. Looks like it may just be on it's way back up again.

This has been a great year so far, when was the last time you could catch so many eyes at this time of the year? I go out on the water waiting to get skunked or only catch a straggler but it isn't happening. The pessimist is turning into an optimist.

The walleye are still biting in the Napanee River which is very rare for this time of year! Was out with a buddy on Tues. morning and fished bass until 10:30, man are the bass plentiful!, then switched to walleye and caught 6 and lost a few by noon. Didn't even have to get out of the river for top notch fishing! Got to love it when you can change fishing from one species to another and have connected generously on both species! Lets hope this is an ongoing thing. Fish on!!!
