well i have had the boat out about 4 times and it just isn't running right. it starts but dies out after a bit at idle in neutral and when at the lowest speed it will choke out! it is getting oil, gas, water, and air me and a buddy tried upping the idle a bit, but it did nothing to fix the problem. so am in need of a good marine mechanic.. it doesn't sound like a huge problem (i'm hoping) is there anyone around that could look at it quickely and get her fixed for me so i can enjoy my first boat this summer and get some fishing done.... so if you can help please let me know. I'm in Deseronto, but am willing to travel if service is fast and reasonably priced.
my number is 613-243-8538. name is Jon. or email me at methodman1992@hotmail.com thanks for any and all help guys! i know you will be able to point me in the right direction...

well me and a auto mechanic friend of mine looked at it for hours and tried just about everything we could think of. played with the idle, adjusted the jets, checked all wiring pulled the plugs, and spark tested them also. and even when the motor is trying to cut out the spark is the same at each cyclnder. fires right back up ! just don't get it. its like someone turns the key off almost. so will see what sprot and lawn can do i guess.

Could it be something as simple as bad gas, or no air flow (valve on gas cap)? Maybe you're digging too deep and not seeing the issue?

brand new tank of gass 91 at that. new fuel line and the can is self venting. I could be over looking something simple have had my mind on getting my grampa wanting to live. he palized himself and has a bunch of sores that just wont heal. so most of my time has been spent looking after him and trying to get him better. i'm realy hoping it is something simple. it runs fine at full throttle but not at trolling speed or idle. there are a bunch of wires going up under the flywheel on the throttle control side that if you puch it forword a bit it runs fine at idle... so it might be related to that also. (coil i think) i realy don't know and hope they don't try and empty the wallet on me when they give me the bill... lol

2 things I would suggest could be the problem

Air mixture screw on the carb - This only effects the motor at low speed/idle its all needle and main jet when you are at full throttle - This was my first instinct

short in ground wire - The other would be a bad ground somewhere when you change your throttle position those wires usually move a little bit if it is pulling a ground off or has created a short in a ground cable when it's bent a certain way this could also cause this. - This is less likely as your say you are having no problems at full throttle but is still a possibility if its just the position of the wires at idle.

Coil problems usually result in you not getting spark so I'm doubting that is it but it could be your stator not generating enough power to spark the motor at low speed - probably the least likely but none the less a possibility it could be the wire that provides power to the coil cutting out from a short.

does it run ok at idle if the choke is on? If it does more likely air-fuel screw

What does it smell like when your motor dies? Do you smell unburnt fuel? if you do it's likely ground/spark issue and the last gas won't get burnt because there is no spark.

Take a look at these few things. I hope this helps. I am far from a boat mechanic but I have done my fair share of trouble shooting carbed motors that don't want to run on my atv

well sport and lawn called and are saying the primmer ball was stuck. and said i can come get it at anytime. they said they had the hose on it for awhile and then put it in the bay for a halfhour and that it ran fine. so will be picking it up in the afternoon sometime and am hoping it runs like a champ... needless to say if all is working well i will go back to sprt and lawn. fair price and reasonable time.
