I was down the end of June fishing Hay Bay and did extremely well catching in excess of 150 walleyes in my adventures. Incredible! I have been hearing the great fishing has continued since then. Why is this after so many years of poor fishing? The fish were all sizes(It was good to see the wee ones) so I don't think it was a year class thing. I wonder if the Zebra mussel infestation has finally leveled out and the fish have gotten used to it? Is it just the right combination of events e.g Water temp.level, weed growth, post spawn? It would be interesting to hear some other thoughts on why the fishing has been so good.
Take care
John

Lake Erie underwent a similar process. I am curious if this will be the same, or is something related. This I expect will see a few parts to the cycle (good and bad). It is to a very limited degree including the result of "limited" fisheries management actions (slot) taken to date. Management is not rocket science....just common public supported, endorsed policies, process. This is still absent, with the exception of the still new Bay of Quinte Commision.

Harvest controls, gear restrictions (eg. barbless hooks, no gaffs, no gill nets, abolish all illegal and by product sales of wild fish stocks) amongst all sectors remains to me the most substantial factor that can make a difference. There is ample room to ensure support with an honest and open/inclusive approach.

We could not believe how great the fishing was this past weekend.

It reminded me of the way it was 10 years ago. The fishery may be recovering or the slot limits may be working or the Walleye have just deceided to come back into the Bay of Quinte.

What ever it is I hope it stays.
