Spoke to several friends that were at Hay Bay this past week and it seems the fishing is getting even better than the fabulous preceeding weeks. Seems some huge schools of larger walleyes are moving in. Outings of 25 for 3 hours were not unusual with many fish in the 18 to 26 inch class caught. Almost 100 % released because it was so easy to go at any time to pick out a few small eaters. Sherman's, and across on the south shore, as well as Thompsons and Mallory bay still the best spots. Big perch and for the first time ever a few large crappies were caught. On the dreaded still days, beautiful bass were cooperating.
Guys, have the zebra mussels caused this huge improvement by creating the cover (weedbeds) we now have ? Just think, if Quinte would have been shut down last year as proposed and opened up to this kind of fishing in a few years. Can you imagine the conclusions that would have been drawn???? This has to be fishing heaven ! It is a few years too soon to credit the slot limit for this success, especially with the bass, perch, and crappys.
