The purpose is to let you know that we (Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry) are also presently conducting an on-water angling survey. I am sure that many of you have been interviewed by our on-water field crews in the past; these crews are fisheries technicians and not Conservation Officers. The field crews will be on the water about 4 days per week until the end of November collecting information about anglers and their fishing trip. The field crews have been instructed to interview as many anglers as possible including volunteer diary anglers. We appreciate your cooperation and patience with our on-water field crews, especially given that some of you may be interviewed several times over the course of the fall fishing season.

Field crews are also instructed to sample some of the Walleye that anglers harvest. This requires them to approach closely to your boat to get your fish. They will be collecting size information and taking a few scales from each fish for age determination. The field crews are prepared to sample your fish without requiring you to stop trolling—weather conditions permitting. If you (as with any anglers that we interview) are uncomfortable with having your fish sampled, please let the crew know and they will not do this.

the fisheries technicians are good people.

met them twice on the water last fall.

both times I just cleared my outside two boards on the port side and they got close enough.....friendly folks.

The info that the techs collect from the fish is invaluable, and to help determine the health of the fishery. The Bay o Quinte trophy walleye fishery is one that we want to protect and save for future generations.
