I'm interested in hearing various opinions on floater coats. I have an older Mustang (The Floater) but find it is not very warm. Locations where they can be purchased in Kingston- Ottawa area would be helpful. Thanks,

They are not meant to be warm . They are a life preserving shell ,,, one purpose only. Like a goretex coat ... It's breathable and water resistant that's it.

i baught a striker ice last year,i love it,lots of pockets very warm and durable.it is a 2 piece.i had a mustang 1 picece no comparison .the only downfall that will only float for 30 min i think.

Hey nuggy1, where did you purchase your Striker suit? I'm interested in picking up a set this year but unsure where to buy them from.

I had gotten an arctic armor, last year and was very impressed with light weight warm ... And is suppose to float .. It is not coast guard approved. With the videos I saw I would say I feel safe that it would keep me a float till I got out..

Thanks for the replies guys. I some times fish in American waters and you are supposed to wear a Coast Guard Approved PFD in the vessel. The striker coat is very impressive looking, but not coast guard approved.

I baught it in Carlton place near Ottawa bait casters .they r not coast guard approved but theyfloat for a while hope long enough lol.go on the striker ice web it will show them floating in the pool .they are very similar as the ice armour suit layout but bthey will float .

If your ever at royal distributing take a look at the mustang ice rider jackets and bibs. Super warm and coast guard approved.

Helly hansen , i wouldn't experiment when your life may depend on it, i've worked on ships / vessels worldwide, it's what big companies use in the oil and fishing industries, a cheap helly @ $400 is still a very good suit, they float and they are warm, i sweat in my top line one, it is intended for emergency, when u know your gonna get wet, the $400 retail suits are nice and warm and very bouyant. I have the helly 1 pc ($400) for pleasure fishing, Get the 1 pc. For survival, 2 piece is ok for comfort, if it gets warm and you wanna remove the jacket. But remember in cold water the pants are useless w/out your jacket on, it's one thing to be on a big workship with time to react, on a small fishing boat, you better already be dressed. I find the mustang suits too stiff, the helly is more comfortable, also the helly has better fitment adjusters inside the suit than the others. It is better for a wider range of body sizes, if your say xl skinny or fat, the adjustments compensate for that.

Has any body ever used the Striker Ice LITE Bibs ? I'm a light weight guy usually on the move but are these going to be sufficient in -25 weather ( I don't mind dressing in layers)?? Does anyone know if I can order these online here in Canada? I've seen a few guy's wearing these suits and really like the "floater" capabilities as I'm right on the Trent. ( Wife says I need a floater suit for early ice )
