Well, with a pair of birds down and turkey season well over, I'm in a state of hunting withdrawl. Judging by the lack of new threads, I guess I'm not alone.
I saw a couple of groundhogs lately and got thinking all they do is eat clover and alphalpha and laze around all day. Anyone ever eat them before, or is that too much of a redneck question???

Sounds like quite a feast. Being greasy was my biggest hesitation for trying them. Interesting you say they're not as greasy as coon, which means coon is either extremely greasy, or groundhogs aren't that bad...

yep coon are VERY greesy lol....... I have a friend who eats them often in fact he always asked me to bring him any small ones i happen to shoot or trap. he never really wants the large or jumbo coon but he loved the small ones, his cooking of choice was FIRST cut off or away as much fat as he could, then he would slow roast them in the over with taters, and onions , and carrots........... so there you have it, give it a try iffin ya have a hankerin! Honistly i think there is many things out there people dont eat usually because there is much better fixins to be had out in the wild but this sure dont mean most gods critters wont go good next to the taters, and gravy!

Have had them a few times, done them in a stew with squirrel and rabbitt. Can't complain about the taste. Cleaning them is no joy - its like cuting open a fat guy :(
