We got back this morning from 15B and had a great trip as always. We were able to see 1 bull, 1 cow and two other moose. I shoud have had a medium sized bull, but the moose Gods were not kind enough to us this year. It rained, snowed, blew and rained and blew and snowed some more. Luckily the sun came out for us for packing day.

We saw 6 Golden eagles this year, one at 20 yards which was simply awesome to see. No sign of bears but had a pet fox in camp. Our camp last year that we cut a trail into the woods is now in the middle of a 500 acre clearcut. Also looks like we will be driving into our sacred area of the last 10 years as a road is being put in now. It's mind boggling what they can cut out in a year.

I would love to post some pics, but my camera decided it would rather stay behind in the woods this year.

Well, that's moose hunting for you. Can't wait for next year's adventure.

Our group of 6 went to Long Lac for the first time this year in 21a. We saw lots of sign but no moose, how about anyone else in this area

Yeah we brought home tag soup also. We couldnt find a fresh track from saturday until Thursday, lots of old ones but nothing was moving. Ended up finding some fresh tracks thursday (including a set that ran down my rhino track from when we went out to regroup and have lunch and when we returned that 2 hrs later) Saw a moose friday night (15 min after dark) and then another along 11 on our way home at 4 am. May have to make a return trip in December with the snow mobiles!

I'd love to put my tag on something as well. I think it's my tag that are our bad luck. We use a tag every year someone else gets one but never used one of mine. Yet.

We've talked about that whole snowmobile across frozen lake moose hunt\ ice fishing for walleye but never did it before. Anyone ever hunt moose in December?

We came up empty in Trout Creek (WMU 47), we only had calf tags between 3 of us, the weather was not our friend as it rained several days but it sure beat working that week :D

Sad stories make me cry.
Left Corbyville on the 18th of October, arrived at our remote cabin on the 21st, to pouring
rain, 6 days of torrential rains, impossible to hunt, water everywhere, and many games of
cribbage, and a few cocktails, the snows came for 3 days, then 2 days of sun and fresh snow
got out to hunt in ideal conditions, 15 below zero, saw 9 moose, 5 cows and 4 bulls, plus 2
butts going into the heavy timber. Wolves everywhere we hunted, 1 pack of 7 hung out by our
cabin for three days, 1 pack of 4 not far off and many loners. The 7 pack just watched every
move we made. You guessed it, we only had calf tags. With a violent storm moving in we
broke camp on November 2nd, moved about 50 miles to Amesdale area in search of a big
buck, stopped counting deer at 60, and only 2 that were 8 points, not interested. All in all
Adventures very angry Moose Gods came down on us, and kicked our butts. Only the 2nd
time in over 40 years. After 26 hours of snow and ice covered roads all the way to North Bay
got home on the 4th of Nov. Can't wait to do this again next year.

Seems all too common a moose strory this year. I saw one bull and one cow hanging in a camp around our area north of Thunder Bay. We only saw one moose on a trailer on the way back where usually we see ten or so. Everyone else I know came back with stories similar to ours.

But it sure is great to see you made it up there this year Blue Pickeral and despite the Moose Gods and their little tricks, it still sounds like you had a great time. And that's what matters most and that's what makes moose hunting what it is. One helluva an adventure. I can't wait for next year either.

Cheers!
