Yep it's true, a rainy day hunting is still better than a good day at work.
Spent the morning playing hooky from work and hunting birds in the rain. Never heard or saw anything first thing so moved around trying a few different set-ups. Finally got them to give away their position with the unmistakable sound we love to hear. Quickly set up the coys and called a pair in to within about 5 meters. The boom of the trusty ole shotgun filled the tag. (You can see the shot pattern in the leaves) Didn't really need the scope for that shot, but it was cool seeing them through it coming in. I like the way you can pick a perfectly clear shot without a twig in the way. I watched them through the scope for about 5 minutes observing the "holes" in the brush as they came in. Plus it was too easy to pick out the bigger of the two. Still a younger one though, his beard was only about 4", the other guys was just a tuft.
I laughed a bit at the time as I made the comment to Grizz earlier about noon hunting cut off times...it was 12:02 when I pulled the trigger.
