Quinte Fishing

Usually I'm bowhunting, but seems I've been doing more late season duck hunting this year than normal. I've been down to the big lake a few times and done well, but I can't help but think how the heck do you get into those massive flocks of what I assume to be Bluebills that are out there 500 yards or more.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever been out there after them and how they did.

what i was told by an old wise man is to use skippers! oh what r skippers ya ask well when we was young we had a couple extra slugs and aim really close to the water and shot and those slugs would skip right across the water and break the flock up but of course they frown apon that stuff now a days so your on your own

LOL...along the same lines, I was thinking of making a modified potato gun, only for pumpkins. Fire that out there to break them up
I'm more thinking my summer project is going to be to build a layout boat for two (side by side) and get ready for next year. I'm thinking of using my electric motor and burying it inside.
I was wondering if anyone has been out there in a layout boat and if you just drift around where they are with the decoys tied to the boat. I would think the water is 30-70 feet out where they are, so anchoring is likely not an option.
