After reading all kinds of stuff online about making your own salt lick spots and whatnot I decided to try it last year, and the results have been pretty good. Last season we had bucks with the biggest racks we have ever seen, none yet taken, and a pretty healthy herd as well. Here is a before and after pic only a little over a year apart. when I first put out the salt the stump was pretty fresh and not rotten at all, tree blew down in a storm. Now the stump is nearly done for! I think I had 224 pics in 2 days!!!

I mix 2 parts trace mineral salt (Hi-Boot), 2 parts coarse stock salt, and 1 part feedgrade limestone. Mix it all up and pour it on a stump or even on the ground. Works like a charm thus far and have the healthiest herd we have seen in a long time. Roughly 200 lbs of it costs me less than $50 at the local feed store.

No water, just mix all of it together and pour it onto a stump or even just onto the ground and rake it into the dirt, they'll find it and start hitting it hard. I'll be up at my camp for the long weekend and will try to get another pic to post.

I just received word from my dad who visited the site the other day and he said another ton of pictures in a 2 day span. Mind you my site is a little over a year old but still receiving a lot of attention from the deer. I'm heading up there this weekend so I'll post some pics when I get back.

The salt licks work!!!! Got my first buck this year! The stump has been pounded for the last month. not much left at my stand. My buddy poured his on a downed tree and the deer have made it a mess. Thanks for the information Musky wannabe.

Just back from the deer camp July 27th,2013 and wanted to share the results of the salt we poured on the stump @ my deer stand. The stump has been cleared two feet into the ground and the roots are showing. Will post picture when I learn how! Thanks again Muskie wannabe

I used this mix the last 2 years. It is simply awesome.
When I get back from the camp I'll post pics from the results.

Went to the camp on Friday August 23rd to check on the Deer activity and the salted stumps. Wow the activity has been great. The trail cam was loaded full of Doe pics and the stump is almost gone after three years of salting. We poured three new stumps and had activity one week later. Thanks for the tips. Hope to get a big buck but the pictures are only Doe so far. I have a Doe tag but want to get that big rack.
