I decided this year to take my bow turkey hunting. I had a few close calls the first couple times out but couldn't seal the deal. This aint no hunting with a shotgun! A compound makes it a whole different game.
But this morning I got set up around 5:30 ready for redemption. A few early morning clucks but the Toms were silent. Around 8:00 I finally got one gobbling. A few more calls and he was on his way. I watched him come from the far side of the clearing like I was pulling him in on a rope. He sure liked the sound of slate. He came right between the decoys, faced the Jake coy and went into full strutt and putt mode at 20 yards. I waited for the shot, aimed right where the wing joins the body and put him down on the spot. I love it when a plan comes together!
My bow is a PSE EVO 7 and I used a 3 blade Rage broadhead. He was just shy of 21 lbs, 8.5" beard and 7/8 spurs. Respectable for sure, but taking him with the bow makes him a trophy in my eyes.
