Looks like we are heading to 16C moose hunting with a bull tag in our pocket this year. Plan is to jump off the train west of Armstrong in the middle of nowhere and paddle up into Wada. We are planning on pack camping from the canoes and setting up our hunting spots from there. We will be staying 10 days, then paddling back and jumping on the train home hopefully with a pack full of moose meat and antler.

We can not take any flammable liquid for cooking so everything has to be cooked over an open fire. But our biggest concern is if it is hot out and we are lucky enough to get a moose early in the week. We will be de-boning and have researched many ways on how to keep meat from spoiling. If anyone has a true and tried way, I'd love to hear about it.

All else and no moose, this should still make for an interesting adventure one way or another.

We always got the hide off as quick as possible, then rubbed in a thick coat of pepper, old guys say it keeps the maggots, flys away, then the cloth body bags, hang in the shade, cool the meat as fast as possible and hung it under tarps for the most shade. 10 days is a long time to keep meat, even in cool weather. Hope it works out, sounds like a awesome trip.
Cheers Rob

Great draw Adventure, got my dear John tag this morning, so this will be a very expensive chicken
hunt for me for 2 weeks. Good luck to you and your crew Dave

That's too bad to hear Donn. We decided we were going to go one way or another and were surprised when we actually got the tag. Really looking forward to going now.

We are used to packing trucks and trailers full of gear. We are only allowed limited contents on the train so now to figure out how to get what we need in the canoes and still leave enough room for a moose.
