Hiya Lawren,

I currently have a Humminbird 580 combo that I am planning to relocate to the bow and am considering adding either a 587 or 788ci HD DI combo to the helm. I would also like the option of using both units from the helm and maximize the screen of one for fishfinder...the other for GPS.
My question, can both units be linked together in either location (1 Nav card and 1 transducer from the helm perhaps?)??
Will I also need to add an Interlink unit? Cables?

As always, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi Tony

The 500 series units cannot be networked with another unit. The 700 series units can be however, so you would need 2 700 series units on the boat and an interlink or Ethernet cable depending on the models to link them.

No units from any brand we sell can share the mapping card between them. You need to have 1 card in each unit for it to display the detail.

You may be able to use 1 transducer on 2 units with a transducer switch. This would only allow you to use the transducer on 1 unit at a time, not both at the same time.

If you plan to keep the 580 then networking isn't something I would worry about when selecting a new unit because you aren't going to be able to network with that unit. However, if down the road you are planning to upgrade that unit then you may want consider the 788ci HD DI over the 587 because it does have the ability to network
