Hey guys, just wondering if anyone could tell me whats happening on my screen.

Image

Why is it showing 2 different bottom depths? The boat was actually in 7 FOW which is being displayed on the top line. The 15.5 FOW is incorrect. Screen would also flicker back and forth from true reading to this double reading. Only happens when in less than 10-12 FOW. Transducer was clear of debris. Unit runs fine in deeper water.

Thanks
Tom

Try turning switchfire setting to "clear" instead of "max" when you are fishing in shallow water.

If you switch to clear it may actually get rid of the true bottom reading at 7'. Worth a shot trying it though.

You are seeing a double echo which is VERY good to see on a sonar unit. It means your transducer and the receiver in the unit is very strong.

In your case, it looks like the digital depth is getting confused between the true bottom and the double echo. I'd check to see if there is a software update for you unit which may enhance the units performance on little glitches like this.

Thanks Lawren. The switchfire mode is set on clear. When I switch it to max, the screen appears almost completley red.

How do I go about seeing if there are software updates?

Thanks again.

Hi Walleye 9. To check for updates to your unit go to http://www.humminbird.com/ . If you havent already you will need to regester your unit with them to get support for it such as software updates. You can also watch some video on how to update your unit that i would recomend you watch. You will need a blank SD card to download the updates to and then place it into your unit... Hope this helps... Fred

Based on what you have said I would say your unit and transducer are working extremely well. You're getting very good readings, its just the setup that needs to be tweaked. If the unit isn't in Auto I would put it in Auto. Humminbirds work very will in Auto mode and don't require a lot of user input for them to work consistantly.

If you still have the same results, try turning down the sensitivity in Max Mode. That should let you reduce the clutter/red color you are seeing
