Lowrance released its latest mapping program Insight Genesis which allows you the user to create your own maps from sonar logs. All you have to do is record your sonar data while you are on the water. Then remove your SD card when you get home and upload the logs with Lowrance’s handy desktop utility. Within a few minutes you’ll receive an email with a link to your custom map.

Here is a sample of a short sonar log from a couple of years ago that I uploaded yesterday.

Here is the Navionics chart for the same area to show the difference.

Lowrance allows you to view the maps online for free. A onetime download is $19.95 to use with a HDS Gen2 Touch unit. The Standard 1 year subscription is $99.95 and that allows maps to be used on 2 HDS Gen2 Touch units and a 4 hour scanning time. This also allows you to merge maps from different trips for even greater detail. The Premium subscription is $299.95/year and offers use on 4 HDS Gen2 Touch and bottom hardness, vegetation, weather tools, and other trending features.

Here is the link to get started on this https://insightstore.lowrance.com/insightgenesis

I don't see the difference in detail on either of the map pictures you uploaded. Are you able to show a before vs. after shot so we can compare?

$299 per year is a lot of money.

Those are, in a sense, a before and after shot. The top picture shows the map created from the sonar log I recorded over the finger that is in picture #2 which has the 5.8m spot sounding on it.

You'll notice in the in the first picture the shape of the finger is quite a bit different that what is on the chart (second picture). It also has a hump topping out at about 10 feet which also isn't show on the chart.

$299/yr is a lot of money but you have to remember that is the cost for a premium subscription. You don't need to spend that much money. $99/yr with the standard subscription is very reasonable and its all most anglers will need. Consider the cost of an electronic chart $150-400 depending on what level you choose. The detail on those charts is nowhere near what you can expect when you are creating a map from an actual sonar log file.

Also, for anglers who's lakes aren't covered on these charts in great detail like West Lake for example they can now take an afternoon and scan the lake then by the next day have an electronic map to use in their HDS Touch unit!
