Don't know if it's normal but my hummingbird (500) series fluctuates with a .6 range, navionics on the IPad is steady and in the centre of the birds range. IPad says 1.5, bird will range 1.2 to 1.8.
Cheers Rob

Are you using an electric trolling motor, or the main motor/kicker?? Could it maybe be wind/waves slowing you down or speeding you up, maybe pushing sideways??

Its not uncommon. GPS is not very accurate at low speeds. Nothing you can really do about that as far as I know. Most guys will use a Fish Hawk for speed or you can even try to add a water speed sensor to your Humminbird as that should be more accurate.
