Okay I am looking to buy a new sonar this spring for my dash to be used mainly when trolling.

I want a sonar/GPS combo with "regular sonar" as well as Down Imaging (I think I want Down Imaging?).

I would like something in the $600 range, if that is possible?

I currently have a Humminbird 587 sonar/gps that I will move to my bow for my electric trolling motor.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

JimW

I'm In the same spot Jim...looking to upgrade as well.

I"ve looked at the helix models from humminbird and they seem impressive, ease of use etc.... I want the 9 inch model though, a little more expensive but I think its worth it.

I don't know what to go with either...SI or DI

I like my elite. the helix is nice too.
the helix would be good because you would be used to the settings of a humminbird. the helix 7 is $679 with di at cabelas.
I have down imaging. it is good for structure and very high detail which is useful. also there might be a couple good ones on kijiji if you look around a lot. you should see what type of mapping it has because some don't show detailed charts for quinte.

Jim... I just recently purchased a Humminbird 859DI from Radioworld for roughly $600 Check their website, you should be able to find something.

The 859DI is going to be your best deal in a 7" screen unit. We also have a promotion (which ends today) where you can get the Navionics+ card for $80 off at $199.99 http://radioworld.ca/859ci-combo-p-12423.html

I'd also recommend sticking with Humminbird in your case because you already have one on the boat and it will be much easier to deal with just one operating system.
