Seems we have to replace the "mother(f2cker)board" on our Xi5 bowmount trolling motor. Anyone else had to do this? The Snarf and I will visit the boat today to determine if we can get the entire motor off the boat (a major pain in the gluteal crevice) or whether we'll have to order a replacement board to install with motor still mounted to bow. Last year the sucker started "not" turning off forcing us to unplug when not in use.
The Xi5 has SpotLock, which we use a lot when the damned thing was working. Anyone else had a problem with a MotorGuide Xi5 bowmount motor?

The Snarf and myself pulled the motor apart. Motherboard under the mounting base. No parts available from any Canadian source. MotorGuide website absolutely useless. Found replacement motherboard on site trollingmotorparts.com who unfortunately do not ship to Canada. Signed up for and created a Florida address through MyUS.com and had motherboard shipped to Florida address for redirection to Canadian address.
Cost of motherboard was US$200. Free trial period for Florida trans-shipment address. Now we'll see what the duty and taxes are on the board.

I switched to Lowrance Ghost from motorguide xi5 because it wouldn’t stay working. 3 gps modules under warranty. Can’t even sell because it’s been in repair shop for 3 months.

Nearly $5k for that bowmount. Crazy margins.

Mux,

Before you ripped the XI5 apart did you do a software update?

Nope. I couldn't even locate any port for my floppy disc. Please advise.

Mux,

If you don't have your XI5 on a network you will probably need to contact Motor Guide directly. They may send you a software dongle that connects to the XI.

In my case I had the XI5 connected to a gateway that connected to a Nema 2000 network that had a couple Lowance touchscreen HDS depth finders. I just went on one of the HDS units and called up the XI5 and requested a software update. The HDS unit then connected to Internet via WIFI and completed the software update.

Good Luck,
BATMAN
