Thanks to all who have posted I understand that going and checking yourself is always the best method for the thickness but if you live a 100km away and drive a truck going to check the ice thickness gets very expensive very fast that is the reason I created this post. Its for poor suckers like me who have to live far away from where the winter eyes can be caught.

Thanks very much to those positng to this thread. I'm in Kingston and don't get views of the bay unless I drive 45 minutes to go fishing. This thread is very helpful. It would be even better if folks posted a few pics of areas as they freeze. The high current areas where the ice is thinnest all winter are typically the last places to freeze (cuz of that same current). Pics of these areas in the last stages of ice formation would be very useful since they would help the non-locals get a good idea of the danger areas. Quinte can be cruel play safe ropes, spuds, floater suits, picks and some buddies oh and cleats its impossible to pull someone out on glare ice. I have one saved life under my belt because of this !!

Tonight....Straight out from the Deseronto Boat launch...4 huts in the main channel
2 more guys a little further east>

I was a little surprised that they are out that far all ready. I didn't have time to check the thickness as night was setting in.
Perhaps tomorrow or Sunday i can post a report.

Checked the ice today. There is a good 5 inches all the way to out to the main channel from the Deseronto Boat launch.

Anyone have any ice updates on Huffs, Hay Bay or Big Bay?

Did the circle sunday around noon,could see some shack's over at Deseronto. 2 groups at Huff's,not too far out. Did not look safe to me! Lots of wet areas around cracks.Nobody at Shermans, only track there was from somebody checking the ice. Same looking ice as Huff's.
One red portable out from the church,not too far out. Didn't have my spud so don't know about thickness.

Drove through Deseronto 7:30 Monday morning. Saw 5 portable shacks in the middle of the channel , in front of Des. 5 portable shacks and a -4 wheeler between Forrester's and the trailer park. Up by the bridge 5-6 portable shacks and a couple of guys just fishing. There was a portable shack about 150 yards north of Forrester's island on the west end of it.

Was out at Myers in Belleville tonight. Lots of ice 5-6" of black ice. A few slushy spots but with good ice underneath.
However no fish and no people. I am missing something here???
