Was out off Deseronto parking lot yesterday evening (Dec 19). 3 or 4 groups scattered about with some on ATVs. Fished about 200 or 300 meters north of foresters and was on 5 TO 6" of good black ice in 22 fow. Fair bit of slush around. Started at 4 pm and iced an 18 incher at 5:45 (perfect table size). Quite a few huts off the north shore up towards the bridge (about 2 or 3 hundred metres off shore).
Likely to be mighty sloppy on top right now, but should be good when it gets cold again

tight lines

Hi there new to this board, I think it's great that people share a little info on ice conditions to help keep people safe. I am looking to take my 11 year old daughter out on Monday and was wondering what experienced people might recommend even if they are catching perch. Looking for the safest possible ice so we can be comfortable and hopefully get her "hooked" on ice fishing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Terry

Hey everyone, I was told yesterday that Wager's had the safest ice. Unfortunately I am in Napanee and short on time tomorrow. Has anyone been out in Deseronto lately. Just wondering. Going anyway I think will spud my way out.

Was out in Deseronto 2 days ago b4 the storm. Straight out from the launch. At least 6 inches of good ice but no fish caught or seen.

I've been seeing guys, every moning/evenings, fishing the mouth of the river in trenton for the past week now. Unsure of ice thickness and probably one of the most dangerous place, that i'm aware, to fish this early in the season. While on this subject, I always ask myself "is it worth risking my life, or others, to rescue someone that was clearly doing something stupid on the ice". For instance, last year while at onderdunks early in the season with a friend, we are fishing on 4 inches of black ice, fairly safe, yet....Out of no where, this ATV comes out with two guys on it, towing an ice hut towards the centre of the bay. Really makes you wonder sometimes. Be safe out there.

Thanks for the reports on this. I took my daughter out today to huffs, due to some info I got from a friend I was feeling pretty confident in the ice. We had 6" of black ice. The fishing wasn't exactly lights out, we went 1 for3 and she iced her first walleye, a healthy 4 to 5 pounds. She was stoked I am sure there will be more memories to be made for sure.

Fish hard and fish safe!
Merry Christmas everyone

Terry
