Hey guys,

Just looking for some help here regarding bringing the ATV or not. Ill be heading to big island "Wagers" this friday the 27th. Sounds to me like we have about 8" of ice out there at the moment. I know the bay well and fish it religiously in the winter months. Just wondering if anyone can confirm either thickness or if they've seen guys running quads in this area as of yet. I'm still 5 days out and with the colder temps coming I'm sure we will only gain ice in this area but was hoping for a little insight. Thanks in advance. PM me if your not wanting to post conditions here.

Cheers

There was a quad at potters last night. My first outing this year and was surprised how thick it was. At least 5" of good stuff with about 3" of the crap on top. I would say, depending on where you plan to fish of course, you should be okay with the quad. I plan on taking mine next outing.

That being said, the one quad that was out was breaking through the crap on top and there is a potential of getting stuck in it, unless the weather gets cold and it all firms up.

Good Luck and stay safe!

I crossed Big Bay from the Salmon River to an area just west of Trident Pont last night on a snow machine and found 8" of ice, half black and half white. Add the hardened crust to that solid base, should be good to go with a quad. The ice looks a little scary at the point but there seems to be lots of ice.
