I like to be warm in my hut. I have a nanook & love it to pieces but even with my heater it can get cold. I looked into upgrading to a thermal tent but after shipping it would approach $300. So I went with another option...I took some measurements & went to the dollar store. I bought 2 of those reflective sunshades you put across your windshield in the summer for $3 a piece. I also bought some stick on Velcro. I cut the corners out to accommodate the wrap locations on the roof of my nanook and pulled each sunshade over the horizontal ceiling bars. I situated them side by side to give me complete roof coverage, rolled the ends around the front and rear ceiling bars and installed Velcro at these point to hold them in position. Brought them inside for the glue on the Velcro to dry & I'm good to go! I can install & remove this system in just a couple of minutes & after trying it on the yard already can tell you there's a huge difference in heat loss. Looking forward to using it this weekend on the bay!

Merry Christmas & tight lines!

This is what I use (Reflectix, bought at Home Depot) and I get no condensation at all, I also have good vents in the Commando, this is a pic of a Clam Trap Trapper , but you get the idea.

How did you fasten the Reflectix to the hut?

For mine I cut holes where the velcro straps are and it goes on the outside of the poles between the tent. First unhook all the velcro, run the Reflectix along the top to where you want it, use a marker on the Reflectix where the straps are, pull it all out and cut where you marks where and put it back in and redue the velcro. When folding your hut make sure the Reflectix folds with the hut. So far no issues.

I ran mine over the poles as well. I like he idea of the sunshades because I can take them down for travel or storage in just a couple of minutes.

Also because mine is a two man it's too wide for a single strip of reflectix...so I found this other alternative. I think the eagle will make me laugh once in a while too when the fishing is slow!

What a great idea. I have looked into replacing the tent material on the Yukon for a number of years. It's close to 10 years old now. Still in pretty good shape, no rips, just getting a little thin. This idea will give it some new life for a reasonable cost.
Thank you.

P.S. I just realized that I joined this site in 2004 and this is my first post.......
Perhaps I should introduce myself.
My name is Tom McCutcheon and for close to 20 years I fished Lake Ontario and Erie for Walleye, Salmon and Rainbow out of my 20' glass boat named "TOMFOOLERY"
After I retired in 2000, my wife and I moved from London to the shores of Pigeon Lake and I got bit by the Muskie Bug. I sold the glass boat and now run an 18' Lund.
I am currently occupied as the Chairman of the Kawartha Lakes Chapter of Muskies Canada.

That's me in a nutshell.

Hey Tom, hopefully you get a little more life out the hut by doing it and welcome to the site.. Think I paid $20 at home depot for a roll, and when i colapse the hut the Reflectix fold along with the poles no problem.
