I've seen alot of salmon landed in hamilton on bass rods, just make sure you have ALOT of line on your spool. I've seen a few people walking away angry with an empty spool.

I've seen people mainly using monofilament, usually around 10 - 14lbs test, using glowspoons or roe bags under a float.

here ya go:

This is a shot of me fighting a king earlier this year, with my bass tackle.

I use a 7ft G Loomis, with a Diawa Regal X 2500. I use 30lbs Braided, with an 8 pound diameter, so it fits quite a bit of line of a 2500, at the 8 pound diameter.

You must use a flouro leader to act as a shock abosber, as the braided offers no stretch, and a salmon will destory something, hooks, splitrings, reels, something will give...

You can also use a bass casting rod, as seen here. Its a 7ft Shimano Compre with a Abu Garcia 4501 baitcasting reel.

I catch lots of salmon on bass tackle...but let me tell you, its nice hooking the big girls on proper tackle. You can purchase a 8.6 Shimano TDR with an Okuma Madge for under 150 dollars! Holds enough line to take the Biggest Kings.

Here's my best Salmon i've taken on bass tackle.
