Fish of a lifetime!

My buddy and I decided to go fishing on Dec 31st to close out 2013 in style. He is moving up north in early January and it might be his last chance to fish the bay for a while. We set out from Kingston at about 1200hrs and arrived and setup around 1300hrs. My Navionics app misguided us and we setup in about 17 feet of water. We quickly realized our mistake and set out for deeper waters. At about 1400hrs we setup in about 27 feet of water and waited for the fish to turn on. In previous days we noticed that the evening bite started around 1530 and lasted about an hour until 1630. Sure as hell we caught one at 1545 (1). Just under 10 lbs and sent him back into the Bay. Around 5 minutes later I noticed a huge mark on my Marcum and it slammed my bait. It didn't fight all that hard until I got it close to the hole then it peeled about 25 feet of line off my reel and I had to start fighting it all over again. After about 5 minutes of fighting the fish it was finally ready to be pulled through the hole. To both our amazement it was a 17LB (36x22inch) MONSTER!!!

We both couldn't believe the size of the fish....Amazing day on the Bay.

I still say we need to come up with a bounty for a legit 16 pound fish we need to raise some money give it to Dan so someone will come forth with a real monster have it witnessed as they plop it down on a real scale that's calibrated to weights and measures and collect the cash reword lol .... nice fish for sure 17 pounds..... doubtful....the odds are stacked against it since there has been 10.000 guys out there fishing all fall and winter year after year and no one has ever taken the time to bring in a monster as total undeniable proof I have pictures of fish that make this one look like a guppy and have yet to break 13.5. but I know guys who have smashed that weight every year multiple times and have yet to break 16 pounds ..... im willing to toss a loony into a pot as im sure 1000 other guys here are or would or will. I still wonder how long it would take for someone to bring in a 16 pounder and collect the $1000

I woul be willing to throw a loony in lol
If I catch a 16 or 17 lber I will bring it to show ya cause it will be going ony wall lol
I have fished for 20 years mainly northern lakes my pb is 11.5 and she went back to swim I have just been starting to fish boq and lakes around Kawarthas and on the hunt for a big girl but there a challenge to get one over 16 that's for sure

Great fish. It doesn't look anywhere close to 17. Just being honest. I've seen some hogs from quinte and if I weighed that fish there would be pictures of length and scale. U just caught a potential world record ice walleye.

totally agree grizz. I measure and weigh all big fish. Im ordering a release bag just to save fish for a release just in case.

Sorry to stomp on your parade man ....but that fish in no way is a 17lb fish I watched a 16 get pulled from the ice and it was a gigantic fish ....that's a 10lb fish at most

I agree with some, this is not even close to 17. I'll put my 2 cents in and estimate the fish at 12 lbs.

Sorry, I know some pictures make a fish look smaller than it was.

Get an iPhone and all the fish look bigger than they were. lol.

According to a walleye weight calculator from Walleye Heaven website a walleye 36 in. long with a girth of 22 in. is about 21.78 lbs. which is some fish. I am assuming that's what the 36x22 means at the bottom of the post. Congratulations on a Nice fish ......
