Fellow Fishers, Happy New Year! Wife and I are planning a trip to Quinte about Feb. 12th, never been there. Have flashers, power auger, portable hut as well as many, many jigs and lures. But, need to know WHAT is the best rod/reel and line used for those hog walleye as well as what are the best lures and sizes needed. Any help is deeply appreciated. Thanks

Med heavy rod and a reel with anti reverse. You have all the equipment just find a spot and catch some fish.

I prefer a medium action rod at least 28' combined with a 500 series reel that has a good drag system with 10 lbs braid with 8lbs floro as a leader.

I say the same as hose22...I used the ice braid with fluorocarbon leader. I have also found it much nice with the fish cam and a the pop up shelter. A lot of places can be a fairly good walk out, so you may want to look at the map, and decide the best place to walk out. I like to use gold coloured lures. Something about that colour seems to reflect and bring them in...just my two cents!

What is the advantage with the floro carbon leader?

Using braid with florocarbon leader gives you the sensitivity of the braid with the invisibility of the floro.

How about adding a propane heater to your list.

It will eliminate braided line, guides, holes and hands from freezing.

It makes ice fishing so much more enjoyable.

Good Luck,
