Dead vs live bait

I trapped several minnows in the Fall and because I foolishly did not cover the container well, 20 kamikaze minnows jumped out overnight through a 2 inch hole (which freaked out my poor wife when she went into the garage that morning!

). I collected them in a Ziploc bag, cut some of the heads off and froze them so I have a mixture of heads, whole minnows and headless ones and still have a dozen live ones. I can't trap more now unless I shell out some $ for new live ones. My question is, would they still be effective? Do you guys have more success with live ones?

Ive caught lots on dead minnows i salt them with pickling salt and use them theu dont work so good if they smell of death

I cut mine up and chum my hole. Put 2 live minnows on my lure and have caught a number of walleye. I think it gives a feeding frenzy appearence down there and draws in the walleye.
Just my opinion, it seems to work so why not keep doing!

I have caught walleye this year on frozen minnows, they definitely don't stay on the hook as long if you are jigging aggressively but in a pinch I would use them again.

5 bucks a dozen I use the dead ones first lol on a good day I can make a minnow last a good 4 or 5 hours trick to that is right before the fish strikes at it you jerk the bait away ive named that game minnow keep away you should try it its fun when you get really good at it it eliminates the whole 4 fish on the ice rule entirely!

Already mastered the art of keeping my minnows. Can go a whole day with a couple of minnows. It's more like providing entertainment for walleyes by making minnows dance. Another benefit is I do not have to clean any fish at the end of the day.

could not find live or dead minnows couple weeks back.used powerbait regular & floating type did all right 2/3 .floating ones made the jig dance into there mouths. trenton 4 till dark first & only outing. going to try worms next.hope nobody fishing on numbers after all it's only been 2 weeks this sun.
