I probably shouldn't ask this but....
Just curious if anyone else has noticed a decrease in the Perch population? I have been out countless times from Bayside to Herchimer and have not caught one, nor have I seen one on the camera. Normally by now I would have seen and fed quite a lot. Did the commorants eat them all? Just seems weird there hasn't been not a one for me this ice season. Perhaps I'm just sitting in the right spot with a ton of walleye under my arse that they are to afraid to come visit for a free quick meal!

Now I'm probably jinxed!!

I was out at PT. Anne yesterday and was nailing them. Lost one at the hole that looked a lb. and a half. Not as many jumbos as last year.

All of the walleye I have filleted this winter have had stomachs full of perch. They are probably hiding lol. I haven't caught one yet either.

no perch is a great sign when your fishing walleye if your flasher is lit up with perch and you want walleye its time to move, I have only been out a few times this year and doing quite well on the eyes for the guys who actually want to catch perch my guess is find skinny water 10 feet or less and it will be absolutely loaded with perch

A friend and I filled a small bucket with about 40 yesterday fishing in 20' to 24' close to shore. 6 of them were jumbos around a pound. They would not bite when jigging only on a dead stick just off bottom. Using minnows on a small pimple worked the best. The schools were moving around a lot, we had 3 sets of four holes about 20 - 30' between the sets and moved from one to the other when the bite stopped at one. A couple were just packed with yellow grubs which I did not expect coming out of the cold water. Check where the tail meets the body for the grubs as it seems that was spot where they were in the ones we caught that were full of them. A couple had the odd one along the back but easily popped out with the tip of the filet knife.

All the jumbos are sitting on one spot haha. It is pretty early maybe they will come out of hiding when all the wallys slow down mid winter
