Monday was a career day for me on the ice... picked up minnows at Pro Tackle (sure glad someone failed grade 1 math)...they sure can't count (God Bless their souls)....

Then it was deciding on where to fish...now after reading some posts and I myself never fished off of Big Island before in the hard water season...I figured what the hell I'll drive the 45 minutes plus around...get to Wager's farm about 7ish...now being by myself and the weather being on the mild side I admit I was a little sketchy about venturing out...my biggest concern though was the manholes that were created by the rain...

As the sun came up, I grabbed my spud, donned my cleats and walked out a few hundred yards...checking here and there...and yes I did come across a couple holes that could've swallowed a grown man easily...

Back to the van...grabbed all my gear and off I went again...

Winds that day were from the south...and gusting to over 30kmh...

Tried fishing some of the manholes to see if anything was happening and nada...

Eventually made my way out about a kilometre and tried in 18 fow...at about 10:30....I get a mark on the flasher...the fish toys with my lure for a bit before I feel the gentle tap on my line. I lift the rod, feel the weight, set the hook, fish on...

Nothing else till about 3pm...that's when it all started...number 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 (which I lost at the hole) some came racing in and hammer my lure, some suspiciously nibbling at the minnow head.

Now living 2-3 hours drive away, you don't get to be picky as to when you can go...(envious of the locals who can daily), you just go when you can...but by golly this was definitely a career dayfor me...and one that will be added to the many memories of fishing the Bay of Quinte

4 nice keepers. How big was your biggest fish. As far as the good count on the minnows... Its called good customer service.

biggest fish was about 5 pounds...a little larger than the one in picture next to the ice scoop...and yes Pro Tackle has excellent service...that was my sad attempt at a little humour...I always go to P/T...unlike certain other shops that actually count your minnows...

You know, every one deserves one of those great fishing days to offset the skunked days esp if you hadda drive far. A few years back, when I was living in Montreal, I woke up 2am, drove 3.5 hrs to Kingston, then another hr to BOQ with my brother and friends, fished all day from 6 am to 7 pm - nada! That made for long drive back home afterwards!
