I hope everyone is having a great summer on the water. I've been lucky to be able to get out a fair amount this summer and have been doing fairly well but most of the walleye's I'm getting are dinks 12-13". I think this means these fish are about 2-3 years old (released the little guys that were not hooked to bad). That would put them around the same year that the slot size came into play. Could this be a coincidence????? This also means that in 3-4 years these little guys should be a nice size. It is too bad the MNR didn't listen to the polls that were taken before they lifted the slot size or gave it a few more years. Who know it may have been working. I guess we will have to wait a few years to find out how much if any damage will be done to the fishery but I hope the trend continues.
Good luck to everyone this summer.
Tight lines.
Sheldon

sheldon the fish you are catching 12 to 13 inches are likely one year old or two years at the most. This fact has nothing to do with the slot size but likely everything to do with the efforts of Mr.maracle who has been conducting his own stocking efforts for a number of years now.If we would insist on stocking each spring and stick togather the fishing would return to where it was in the late 70's and early 80's...Or even better..

Well if that is the case we should all extend a thank you to Mr. Maracle for all the work and the effort he is putting into doing this. If Mr. Maracle reads this thank you for the efforts and if you ever need any type of assistance please feel free to contact me as I would be more than happy to assist in any way possible.

I doubt iether had much effect. Lots of snow with heavy spring runoff = lots of fish.

All of the great lakes have seen a banner 2003 hatchery, mainly due to mother nature. Perch also spawned very well that year. Here in Lake Erie, we are catching them everywhere by the dozens, 12 - 14" size. It is estimated to make up about 40% of the walleye population in Lake Erie. From what I'm hearing, all of the other great lakes are experiencing the same thing, although not quit as prolific.
