Looks like the new moon is on Thursday of this coming week.So this weekend is a few days after the new moon.My question is.What are the opinions of the master walleye ice anglers regarding this phase of the moon.Is it a good phase to fish or is the full moon phase better? Is it better to fish just before? during? or just after?

Dont know the answer to this for ice fishing. I remember back to when I used to do alot of night fishing and when it was calm and a full moon I went home skunked.

Thx for the reply Dan.I realize there are other contributing factors such as barometric pressure amongst other things to take into consideration but I was just wondering what others thought of moon phases and how they effect fishing in general.

I just threw out my old calendar from last year, and it was one of those fish/moon phase calendars. Typically full moon and new moon are about 2 weeks apart, and the calendar said those were "supposed" to be the 2 best times of the month to fish. If I remember correctly, it lasted for about 2-3 days. Just before and just after the moon. Whether you wanna believe it or not, is up to you. I'll be at Perfect Vue next weekend, so Friday should be on FIRE!!!!! I'll let ya's know.

Now if we could just get the Barometric pressure to cooperate with the moon, fishing should be easy....

3 days before 3 days after the full moon. I can recall night trolling once under a full moon that came out and hammered eyes on the kawarthas other then that full moons are crappy for me

According to my sportsman calendar fishing is to be Good Jan 27, Better Jan 28 and Best Jan 29-Feb 1. But if is as accurate as the weather man.....good luck. So heres to the 1st being best, just in time for the Battle.

Stay safe out there this week and looking forward to meeting everyone at the battle.
