Quinte Fishing

While tossing buzzbaits I landed a huge white bass on the weekend while fishing form my canoe. It was my first White and was impressed by the fight on light tackle. Are these fish common for the bay? it was the first I have seen and caught

They used to be much more common during the 1970's, if my memory serves me correctly. I believe a hard winter in 1978 or so severely put a damper on the population. As a kid, I recall having a tough time keeping them off, and yes I recall them having a great fight.

sweet !!! hopefully they are making a comeback, I read an article about them in canadian fly fisher. they said the mouth of the ganny in port hope holds alot of them as well as lake nippissing in north bay. would definately like to catch those in BOQ. buzzbaits?? are those surface lures??

I caught it with a quick retrieve on a top water buzzbait over some cootail weeds. The Largemouth loved the bait too and the white was a pleasent surpise. I thought it was a stripped bass but checked a few photos and its a white. Wish I would of got a pic it was a sizable fish

Buzzbaits are a very effective top water and if retrieved slowly a good underwater bait as well.
They can have a skirt of plastic or hair and vary in weight. The very large blade on top makes quite a commotion on a surface retrieve.
Also there's nothing like a top water explosion when a fish strikes....Larry

I know all about that!!! I'm usually out Saturday mornings in my waders twitching a deer hair frog and enjoying the scenery watching people wake up and start moving about in the city, then a nice big smallie smashes the surface inhaling my frog fly giving me a heart attack.

I've read an article about fly fishing for muskie, I think it was on Stoco, I'll have to look that up again

sometimes they are hard to get period let alone with a fly rod. Try using big salt water streamers meant for tarpon and cudas...

I tied a handful of clousers I'd like to try for them, if you come fishing with me, I'll give you a bunch of stuff I tied, In one month I've tied more than I'll ever use, I can tie deer hair bass bugs too now (took some learning hehe) let me know before hand and I'll make you a couple of them

crazyhook, when you come visit I'll be ready for the muskies, I tied a bunch of zonkers just ready for them, gonna go and test them on some big bass.

I know you're fishing the Moira....ever have any luck there for musky? My Dad lives up the river, near Foxborough (sp) and he does well later in the season. Not with fly fishing though.
