Just wondering what the concensus is (if there is one) regarding using tip ups vs. jigging with another pole as your second line on the bay.

I would think that using a tip up would help you cover a bit more water however, you're not going to get that jigging action that might attract the fish in by using 2 poles.

I have a feeling that not a lot of tip-ups are used on the bay but I really have no idea.

My buddy has caught 3 of his fish this year on a small slurpie jig tipped with a minnow, when he gets a fish on the screen, he jigs his buckshot like he would to get a bite, and then every little bit just lift and drop the slurpie a few inches, sorta like a dead stick, but not quite. I personally just jig, but like walleye wonder said, they do like the still presentation some times.

Usually a wasted effort walleye wise, but I sometimes drill another hole 10 ft away with a tiny presentation and minnow.... sometimes being the opposite of your aggressive jig sweep can work. Maybe 4 Walleye ever for me on a dead stick.

I was told to leave my tip ups home when I came up 2 seasons ago. Caught the biggest eye of the trip on the tip up and busted another one off. Light leaders and smaller minnows will work just like a dead stick.
