I am heading to the big smoke for the Sportsman Show on Saturday and taking my two little guys (6 & 8 yrs). I was just wondering if anyone has been there yet and what they thought.

Also, is there any must see things for the little guys I wouldn't want them to miss.

Dave

Hi Dave

Laker John & I were there on Thurs, we found the show to be smaller than the past, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

We had a chance to meet some of the Quinte charters who were there doing demonstrations.

Met Ashley at the Rapala booth and said hello.

Hope U enjoy the show.

David aka superdad

Was there on Thurs. as well. Didn't see u David? Much smaller than in the past. Big Jim was there with Ron and Leo. No other Big names. Jeff Chisholm was there. Not many tackle reps. and a few retailers. No deals as usual. Lots of outfitters and meat sellers. Ont. Gov. spent a lot of our money there. Buddies and i had fun but it was costly. Probably not go next year.

Have to agree with this post. I went on Fri. The only "deals" would be on big ticket items like a boat or atv. A savvy buyer could prob. negotiate the same deals from a local merchant. Other than that, any savings on gear is lost in the admission price. Not a bad place to inspect the quality of things you might buy in a hands on way, compare brands and then purchase via local vendor or internet. But other than that, kind of a waste of $ and time. I probably won't go again.

I haven't been in years and hate to agree, but it sure isn't what it used to be. I was really surprised they don't have the retriever trials anymore. If it was just up to me, it will be a while before I go again.

But the boys ad fun and that was the main thing.
Scott from West Lake Willows went out of his way to find them a Rapala trinket they didn't already have. They each tied their own fly. But the highlight for me was my youngest getting up on the stage and learning how to cast using a fly rod. Not to be prejudice, but I think he stole the show and for the first time with a fly rod, he did really well. I have a feeling he will wanting to use mine as soon as the water opens up again.
