I've been having a pretty good year on The Ottawa at my cottage. Been busy renovating and have managed to get out for most of August, finally :!:

I've been having great success in 8-10 ft of water. My son and I have nailed over 100+ Walleye in that time frame. Had a couple great meals, most were released. It's just nice to see they're still there in quantity, and I must add quality!

Here's a sample...

He's nailed the biggie of the month a 5 lber, which on his insistance, was released. Personally I like the 1-1/2 to 3 lbers for eating too!

Another of Kyle's beauties!

And the Crappie are no slouches either :!:

One thing I didn't realize, Crappie bite really well at dusk too :!: They moved into our area a few years ago and are fluorishing. Thought they'd move out the 'eyes but I don't see that happening, yet anyway!

How's everyone else doing this year at their cottages etc?

That was interesting to see the pictures of the walleye from the Ottawa R..

Crappie sure have grown in popularity from say even 10 years ago. I have only tried them once (from the Ottawa R.) while being the guest of a former shop owner in the area. I found them tastey. Are there still any brown trout holding in the Champlain rapids at all? Just curious.

Hey DOn,

yes they're still there as well. I have yet to target them myself, which is too weird, I work right there at the filtration plant  I'm sure I'll target them someday. Friends of mine do catch the odd one tossing flies there from time to time.

I spend lots of time on Quinte but also love to fish the lake I live on just outside of Perth Ontario. The walleye are a bit hard to find but this summer I have been nailing them suspended over 20 feet of water on the flats. Inline planer boards and deep diving cranks power trolled at 2.5 to 3 mph have been the ticket.
This summer my boat has managed over 200+ walleye on the lake and the big ones are just starting to hit. This local fishery keeps me busy between my 1 Hour 30 Minute road trips to Quinte.

Glad to hear the fishing is so good on the Ottawa because I just moved to Arnprior from Hay Bay
