Hi Everybody happy long weekend. Just wondering if anyone has walked out from Huffs lately? Thinking about coming down that way on Sunday and I was curious if there is a lot of snow and slush like some of the other areas in the bay. I was also wondering how the bite has been as I usually fish the west end of the bay. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everybody this weekend be safe.

I was out at Huffs friday evening feb 14. got there a bit late and wasn't fully set up at prime time. Another skunk for me.
There are some "kind of firm" snowmobile tracks but also some hellacious drifts with 5 to 10 inches of snow on top of 1/4 inch of ice on top of 4 inches of slush on top of 11 inches of real ice. Fortunately, I went out on XC skis (with my warm boots packed on my sled) and I could skim over all of the crap. With the skis off , my feet were in danger of getting wet ('til I switched to the snowmobile boots) and walking was a slog.

Met a guy in the parking lot who had to borrow a chunk of steel from one of local residents so he could use it as an anchor to winch out his four wheeler which had bogged down in the slush. He told me, "you made a good choice, skis are the way to go".

I didn't do an accurate measurement but my guesstimate is that the "real ice" off huffs was 12 inches thick, down from 16 inches thick a few days ago. The warmer temperatures and current in the Reach are thinning the ice from the bottom.
Be careful and be safe out there

That guy who got his fourwheeler bogged down in the slush could have drilled two holes side by side, loop the winch through the two holes and hook it back on the cable and pull himself out. worked many times for me!

We fish Huffs this afternoon to dark. Decided to leave the ATVs and walk out. Seen a couple bikes out there. No top water today. No fish to report either.
