I had my reel freeze up a couple of weeks ago it is a Shimano as well. It stopped reeling in about 6ft under the hole with a laker on. I am using fused ice line and was not using the hut that day and it was the water absorbed in the line and on the rod eyes that caused the problem. I have 4 other rod/reels all with the same line and none of these had froze up like the Shimano did that day. I have frabill sub zero grease (bass shops pro) and something called reel magic (ctire) on all my other reels and used them outside this season without issues. The shimano was new and I did not grease it up yet or spray the line but think it would have helped.
