For many years the official term in Ontario and the way they were listed in the regulations was "Yellow Pickerel ( Dore)" and I am too old to change and don't care if Dore is spelled wrong. I couldn't find the accent on the keyboard. If people from the Excited States want to call them Walleye that's up to them and if it makes you feel good you do it too.

And that's from the Horses mouth. I will not change either.

And now....back to more exciting top water walleye action on the BOQ Fishing Forum!

The only success I have had is late September and early/ mid October, using original floating rapalas with stop and start retrieve in the evening. I have been told "they turn on to frogs in September when they start croaking or creaking and as stated above start migrating". The only fishing show on it that I can remember is one of the Viola boys (Fishin Canada) and that was a long long time ago. It was an excellent episode as I recall.

Guys,

Once caught half a dozen 4-6 lb Walleye on a Zara Spook over a 6 ft rocky shoal just before dark. I can remember some of the Walleye jumping clear out of the water on a strike. I think these fish thought they were Bass.

You never know what Walleye will bite.

Good luck on the water,

I have hammered them on a zara super spook at dusk on beaver lake in the mid summer at least a dozen times. Fishing in 4 foot of water at a river mouth.

Like many others have stated they will in fact bite top water if the conditions are right. I nailed them on top water 2 years ago on opener in a shallow bay (2-4 fow) in the middle of the night with a big bright moon. I'm sure they were in there eating something on the surface as it sounded like hundreds of fish splashing around in the shallows for hours. They were really easy to catch and it was a blast, but no bigguns. Got them on a big stick bait.

For those who insists on calling walleye "pickerel" - what do you call this?
