Always Hopeful (Rob),

I stopped into work yesterday and picked the three rod/reel combo's you left for me. Thanks so much and I will make sure a youth/or young teenager in our area will make great use of the fishing gear. As always when someone donates gear to me I keep some of it for the kids derby I facilitate and I also keep some of it to give a way at the local docks.

If I am driving my cruiser around the docks and I see a couple of kids fishing with pretty rough looking gear I'll give them a rod/reel combo and watch them beam with a huge smile. I'll let them know that a person from the fishing community donated them. I am well aware of which kids could use a helping hand and if I give it to them its easier then a Stranger (which might get strange reactions from parents).

I have watched many fisherman/persons from this from this board and local area donate time/knowledge and gear to local youths with no motives other than to help someone else. To give you an example Rick Somerville (Dicky to most of you) last year at the conclusion of the adult derby I run in September for children cancer program called PEDAL FOR HOPE, Dicky's group won some fishing rods/Reel combo's and other gear and saw the big eye's of some local kids watching the weight in and he turned so no one would see and he donated all is gear to those kids. That's a great example of an ambassador to our local fishing area.

I am always in awe of the amount of great people I meet through fishing.

Thanks again to Rob,

Pat

Wow this is inspiring!!! :D If we all went out and bought one rod and reel combo on sale at Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/total-tackle-105-piece-kit-spin-cast-0784865p.html#.UyeIXF5Rte4 and gave it too one kid who didn't have one. This would have a huge impact on the next generation of anglers. (positively of course) I will definitely be doing this.

Thanks for the inspiration guys!!!

When I was posted to CFB Gagetown I fished a lot of small competitions with a buddy and our kids, every second weekend we were bringing home rod/reel combos w/ tackle boxes. Every family member and friend was taken care of. When visiting I noticed a lot of the gear sitting in the corner of their garage, it was being used once and left to gather dust. People took the gear because it was free and something to do for a slow Saturday.
Now if I have something I would like to donate I look for the Pat Comeau,s. Find the guy who spends the time on the piers and knows who the kids that have a passion to fish and cannot afford decent gear. Weather u get the gear for free or buy it to donate, it should end up in the hands of a child who realizes just what he is receiving. Just my 2 cents worth,
Cheers Rob
