The way the weather is going, centennial park will be a disaster if camping is allowed on the grass areas. It will end up being tax payers money spent on repairing a mess. If it was a spring like the last it would be better. As for hydro you can't complain that they shut it off or it's not provided, hydro is not free when you go camping anywhere else. You end up paying for it. It sucks that camping isn't allowed on the grass this year but it makes sense.

Power has been on for years for free. I've heard enough about "hydro isn't free". Everyone knows its not free. It's just something the city has provided for years. Why change it now! And we pay taxes for a reason. Just like how we pay all that money for hydro, when just the other day I caught 2 guys in a hydro truck napping.

That's why we're charged delivery on our hydro bill, to cover the lost wages of hydro guys napping on the clock! Where has it said that power will not be provided? I haven't read that anywere? Camping is moved to the parking lots maybe temporary power will be provided? That's a question to ask. Our roads are brutal from this winter, I'd rather see tax dollars spent on fixing them then filling ruts and reseeding/sodding cenntenial park.

The parking lot near the marina has been added to the camping list. Hydro and water WILL be available for those trailers. You'll be able to be closer to your boats here. Camping in the big parking lot near arena is still a go. Some changes have been made. No trailers along the fence line due to the neighbouring home owners. Hydro WILL be provided along with water through a fire hydrant hook up. Camping by the skate park is still a go. No power or hydro in this location. Overflow is there but most likely will not be used. Parking is by skate park, new lot by arena, and by vendor activities. The additional docks will most likely be placed inside the marina where they are sheltered. The City is building I believe 4 new 16 foot docks. At least one dock will be used and posted for boats coming in for weigh in only. Please NO PARKING ON THE BOAT LAUNCH!!! The City asks everyone to stay off the grass with vehicles and campers. Tents are fine. They have increased their budget to clean up the parks in town by quite a bit and in the last 5 years I have noticed a huge difference. Things are headed in the right direction and looking good. A meeting will be held after the derby to discuss anything that could be improved and everything that went smoothly and should be carried out in the future. Looking forward to it and supporting the cause!

I wonder where all the day fisherman are going to park that's fishing.They have taken all the parking lots up for trailers leaving no parking for cars/trucks with trailers.

maybe the city should charge for the camping and hydro from the day an Rv or trailer is set up. that way they will have the monies to repair any damages to the park and any monies left over could be donated . also maybe a list of camping areas can be posted on the derby web page.

I tend to agree.......... sounds like a good deal buy a ticket get a week or more free camping, free water, and hydro,trash tags for a weeks worth of garbage at the cities expense.......... does this same rule apply all up and down the bay for the derby week? potters conservation? swickes park? mass conservation ?

I also agree....not sure how people could actually complain about free camping/facilities. Over the last 10-12 years, I've entered the Kiwanis derby maybe 7 or 8 times, and have always rented a trailer/campground, usually costing me 200-300 bucks for the weekend, if not more. I do this because I enjoy the excitement of fishing opening weekend, having a campfire, and having a bunch of beers at the end of the day when I come off the water. If you want to camp somewhere for the weekend, then book a campsite somewhere, and fork out the cash like everybody else does and you will have all the facilities you need. If you choose not to, then launch at a public launch, pull your boat at the end of the day, and launch it again the next day.

That's what I do since I only live 10 min from the bay just like most of the guys on this site that are bitching that they have no water and no hydro for free. Get in you truck drive 5 mins and your In your warm house with hydro you are already paying for and water you pay for this is just getting to be a *** show I think the Kiwanis have done a great job in recent years and this year will be the same

There is something to be said for traditions. A point was brought up that this year a decision was made that was effecting a group of people's traditions in a negative way. As a result it was discussed and was then taken to the proper place to be heard. It seems in the end, this has benefited everyone in a positive way and for future years of the derby.

It's nice to see some people still stand up for what they believe in.

people have been paying for years for the same tradition and the the city seamed to only satisfy a hand full of people. is it fair that the rest of the campers in the park receive less ?

good point Dave............ I still cant help but think this is a very small amount of people. how would these guys feel if they showed up to there site they have used for the past 15 years just to find it filled and no place to camp ? who would they blame then? im sure there is many who didn't know you could camp for free. get hydro and water..... I see they now have a time keeping people from taking there campers down to THERE spots a weeks or a month before the derby I wonder if they plan to keep that rule as well ? or will you still see campers show up well before so they can have there traditional spot ? . im quite sure camp grounds are full for that week by people who book a year in advance so they can keep there tradition alive ...............no right or wrong here I sure don't condemn those who stand up for them selves.. I still think it was wrong for them to blame Kiwanis for a little short coming they felt was coming there way.

When were the Kiwanis ever "BLAMED" grizzly? Get your facts right man before you try and make a point. Like seriously...all the negative comments on here. Some of you's aren't even from Trenton and don't understand what goes on and just say...pfft how can you complain. It's been a tradition for 20+ years. Sure we don't pay for it...again it's been like that for as long as I can remember. The city wanted to change it and things weren't communicated properly. So as a 23 year old. I took my concerns, along with others, to the city. Sat down with some nice fellas and discussed what could be done to get it as close to the way it was. We came to a compromise and everyone is happy now. Except for a few who aren't even from around here. I honestly don't get it. Ill pat myself on the back then for doing what most don't have the balls to do.
