Hi,

I am planning a trip to Wellington for Browns in a couple weeks. I've been fishing there for Salmon for a few years, so it is my natural first choice.

Given waves/pack ice could scuttle our long trip from Ottawa, I'd like to have some backup options. I have heard there is a Generating Plant to the west of Finkles Park but I am unable to locate it via google earth.

Anyone willing to point me in the right direction, or provide alternate spots?

Thanks!

Brian.

The Lenox Generation Station is here: http://goo.gl/maps/BFSWB

The area still needs a major thaw though.

I can't take it any longer. I'm hooking up the boat and heading out to get away from all the ice around the Kingston and Wellington area looking for some bows and browns to the west of Quinte.
Winds are supposed to be from the north and settling down a bit later on Sunday morning so hopefully I can find a clear launch and smooth water somewhere and have a good report after I get back. I'll be checking Wicklow, Cobourg, Port Hope, California...

There's open water west of Quinte and Port Hope is wide open.

Launching might be an issue - bring sand, salt, shovel, and a spud.

Lotsa luck - hope you can get out.

Hope I can get in...that's the important part :) But I was there last weekend and I should have no problems. More concerned with how many lines I will drag out on the boat prop from all the guys shore fishing. Which is why I hope Wicklow launch is open.

On another place, I drove by the Gap at lunch today to have a look. I can see open water between the points now. With the strong south wind we have now and the north winds we are supposed to be getting, it should open up really good through there the next few days.

I fish the LGS and it seems to always have a light flow. It can be a hit and miss if the water is running fast and I've never been able to figure out any pattern on it's operation.

Would love to hear if anyone knows more about it...

Cheers

The L&A Generating Station is a 'Standby' generation plant and operates only when the grid needs extra power.

The outflow is sporatic, HOWEVER, they are building another generating power plant beside the existing plant, that SHOULD have an outflow to attract fish.

Have to wait a few years though!!!!

The Wellington boat ramp may be accessible mid way thru next week after this rain.

At present I think a couple guys with shovels and ice chisels could get it open in a couple hours. But you are not going to be able to fish Athol Bay. Still frozen over. West Point should be OK.

I'll up-date later in the week.

Al

Port hope should be fine. I was there a couple weeks ago and you could have launched. The water is open in the mouth so you could have launched off the wall. By now the ramp should be clear I would think.

(Edit: There was icebergs and plenty of them though)

Thanks Al - coming from Ottawa, I really appreciate local eye witness reports.

I'll probably ignore anything posted on Tuesday though

I should clarify I meant launch with a yak not a boat. Although a boat might be possible now.

Wellington Bay full off drift ice this morning. Not fishable. Probably need some north wind to get rid of it.

Will report later if the little rain that we had helped the ice situation on the ramp.

Port Hope launch is not a go unless you have 10 guys with pickaxes and an hour to burn. Bottom half of the launch is covered in ice/snow as of March 28.
