Ontario Outdoors Magazine had a real good article about a guy who targets the gar. Pretty interesting read, if I remember correctly it was printed in the 2nd or 3rd last issue.

RJ is the man when it comes to Gar.

He holds the Ontario record as well as countless monster gars.

He posts on this board so maybe he'll chime in on this thread.

Pioneer in the Gar game, that's for sure.

good info. Actually I think they do have the right to pull up to you. Canoe or not :)

Lol.. I believe they have more authority than opp. They can walk right in your house/cottage and search your freezers if they have any "cause" or "reasonable " tip or if they think they saw you out on the water or ice. They also can confiscate your boat, gear, truck, quad, skidoo, and house if they want. Pricks is right... now if only everyone could treat the fisheries with respect, we wouldn't need to pay for the hassles

Wow, did you fall on your head recently?? Lol Gar go nuts when hooked, and have twice the muscle than any bass. You obviously have never caught a Gar, because anyone who has, will definetly not be saying that they are weak fighters.

are you sure they were gar? Gar fish like crazy, unless you hooked a 10 inch gar, i doubt that it was a gar you hooked.

The whole reason I want to try catching one is because of videos I seen on youtube just search they fight like crazy and look like pre-historic beasts! There is also a guy on another ontario fishing forum that catches 4 and 5 foot long monsters and posts pictures all the time and it has really peaked my interest. These things from what I have seen thrash their heads around and that is how many end up getting sliced open by either the teeth or the lure lol.

I have no plans to eat one and really just want to catch one to see what it's like. Thanks for all of the comments and ideas I appreciate it!!

Thanks Steve, appreciate the kudos my friend.

Gar are my favorite fish to target, pure sight fishing. I've built a large platform on the bow of my Lund to increase sightlines.

The article on OOD was a great piece that covers it all. I think Justin is still in awe of how that day went down..

Fun fish that certainly fight harder than a 1/ lb Smallie...
