Exactly how this works is something I can't get my head around. The idea that some stray voltage drifts around behind the boat, I don't think so.
But what I do is tell the guys to fish on the other side of the boat, if they don't catch anything it doesn't matter but if they do I look like God.
It is not stray voltage. If the lake water was pure or distilled with no minerals we would not have a problem. A battery is created by submerging 2 dissimilar metals in an electrolyte. It produces a voltage. With the lake water having minerals in it, this creates is a very weak electrolyte. The dissimilar metals are the stainless steel down-rigger cables and the die-cast aluminum out-drive or lower unit on the outboard. Thus you have a small battery around the boat with a very small voltage but it does have an affect on the fish at certain times of the day.
With the black box you can increase or decrease that voltage to zero.
