I'm a teacher/coach at Holy Cross Secondary School. Recently, through a personal love of fishing and the outdoors, I have started a Fishing Team/Club at our school. From grade 9-12, we have over 30 very keen students who have committed to our program and new members are joining weekly. We are committed to improving our knowledge and fishing skills.

I have applied and received enough funding for only 10 students to take them to the annual Edu-Cast High school tournament near Aylmer, Ontario on May 30th. Organized by Pro Darren Jacko, over 1200 students from across Ontario participated in this 2 day event last year.

Being in our infant stage, we currently have very little resources available. If you have any advice or tournament info we could enter, locations to take 30 kids to fish from shore. Old equipment that could be re used by students etc. anything would be very helpful. Fishbum will be designing a team jersey later this week for us and currently have 4 spots left as sponsors. (worth a shot).

Again anything at all would be extremely helpful, thank you

My son is on the team, rarley speaks to me but does want to go fishing. I sent you an email at work about the sponsorship thing. I wonder if you could get some of the better anglers come and do a presentation at the school ( probably require a police check) I am wondering how much you can do with getting help without the whole police check thing?

This is great to hear!!!

There is also the Student Angler Federation. It is a part of the TBF group as luck would have it the President of The Canadian Bass Anglers Federation just happens to live in Kingston. They have a pretty established program which provides a lot of bonuses for the kids.

Ice hunter if you call me at work tomorrow I am sure I can assist you with with sponsorship. I have sponsored numerous clubs, charities etc. including several school events locally every year. I share with you the same passion for fishing and would be glad to give back to something that means a lot to me and our community as a whole.

Depending on how many kids are able to fish would it be an idea to have a student paired up with an adult or someone who has a boat and do like a pro am format? The boat wonder would be fishing for his own and same goes for tr student? That would be of interest?

Thanks again for all the help and support. Here is where we are so far.
sponsors that have helped kids out with Jerseys (Fishbum) and donations:

Canadian Tire (Mike Howe)- major partner
Scott Lake Lodge and Flyouts
Kingston Dodge and Car Loans Kingston
Phone Works
Wards Marina
Vance outdoors
Grant's No Frills

Also a Big thanks to J. Semark for the Rods and Reels and the large box of lures and plastics. that was awesome!

Also Big Jim McLaughin has offered to do a fishing seminar with our kids. I might be more excited then the kids. :D

Hey icehunter

I teach at athens high school north of brockville. This will be the 6th year i. will be taking some of my high school fishing team members to the Edu-cast tournament. We have had atleast 1 student place in in the top 10 three times in the last 4 years and qualify for the Edu-cast Championship on Lake Erie in June.

We also do a Lake Ontario salmon charter trip with the students and we are planning a st. Lawrence carp trip in Jume.

There are not many high school tournaments in ontario. I have been thinking about trying to set up a eastern ontario tournament for awhile.

We are also signing up our school club as a Bassmaster High School Nation Club which will give a few of my more serious anglers a chance to compete for the opportunity to fish the High School Bassmasters Championship in the US.

We should talk and see if we can work together on some ideas to benefit us both.
