Quinte Fishing

Hey guys. I'm planning on fishing some lindy rigs this weekend. I picked up some slow death hooks and plan on trying them on a lindy rig. I also picked up some floaters that I might attach to bring the presentation a little higher in the water column, would I need to keep these a couple inches away from the hook to allow the slow death to do its thing? How about spinners behind the slow death? I've got 10 and 20 lb fluoro, which would be best? And as long as I keep'er slow ~1mph , could I throw one on a planer board, or should I use the bottom bouncer for that?

Hthis is how I do it. Slide the Lindy sinker on the main line so the curve is facing the correct way. Then tie a barrel swivel on. Then you have 4-6 ft leader to d
o.ouuble hooks 3" apart. I put a pill float about 3" above the top hook with a tooth pick. You want to drift slow with them. No need to troll. Watch the rod tip, when it gets a Lil heavy feed it to them. I mean grab rod and give them a touch of slack then set the hook a few seconds after. Then filet

Thanks! Maybe I should throw some bottom bouncers and worm harnesses on first to find them, then drift with lindy rigs. I won't be in quinte this time, I'll be in the upper Ottawa river, and I'm not familiar with the spring walleye there, so I'm looking to cover a lot of water to locate them first (hopefully not too far before I find them though!!!)

Check out some tackle shops. Some stores sell the snells made by Lindy. Some with floats, some without. Only a couple bucks!!!

These rigs come with an eye on the snell, so I'd use a snap swivel in this case, for an easy switch if need be. I usually leave the bail open, and hold the line with your finger. If you feel any tension on the line, let your finger go, feed the fish some slack (10-15 seconds) close the bail, then set the hook.

Well , I tied 3 lindy rigs all 3-4 feet long. 1 with a pill floater 4" behind a slow death hook, one with a spinner blade and beads, 1 with just the slow death hook, all with a polar knot with a cm tag left to secure the worm .. Also two worm harnesses with chartreuse spinners. Now just time to find out what the fish prefer then rig the remainder in the water. Thanks as always for the advice. I am from Pembroke and fish the Ottawa river regularly. When the season opens here this weekend the majority of Walleye will be in or near the spawning areas. The mouths of rivers (Muskrat and Petawawa rivers) are amazing areas to fish during the first 2 weeks of the season, especially this year with colder than normal water temps. I use jigs tipped with either worms or Gulp alive or bottom bouncers with a worm harness or slow death hook. The slow death method is deadly here. Some use a red bead ahead of the slow death hook and sometimes we use a very small spinner in front of the slow death hook also. All methods I have mentioned work extremely well. Good luck.

You didn't miss much. Hardly even marked anything all day. Checked rocky shorelines, sand beaches and shallows, tributaries... Nodda. Once my screen filled and I hooked up with a 6" walleye, but no matter when I came back, that school had left. Water is 42, the few who hooked up were in the 25' deep range , caught by fishing on the bottom. My improvised slow death with a pill float worked, I just had to bring the float about 10" back to get the action on the hook.

Well, at least you got out. I'm stuck in a hotel with a sick kid that ate way too much today at a birthday party and tomorrow morning, if he is ok, I get to go shopping with the wife and kids. Much rather be fishing. Good luck fishing.

Haha. Well, fish are biting up here. Seems to be the sandy beaches this morning for Pike

We have a bunch of guys heading up to fish the upper Ottawa river June 13th for 10 days. This is an annual trip for us and we do fairly well. Most of our fish are caugh with a jig and a minnow. We have many spots to try as we have been giong there for year.

We stay at Pine Ridge Park & Resort while we're there.
